Class Etiquette

1)Arrive 5-10 minutes early
By arriving early you will have plenty of time to get settled in, center yourself, and prepare for practice. Check in with yourself. Let go of outside thoughts and concerns. Let go of the to do list, this is YOUR time. Just you, and your mat.
We lock the doors exactly 5 min after class starts. No entering after that time.

2) Remove your shoes
There will be a space near the doorway for you to remove your shoes. Classes are practiced with bare feet, so remove your socks too.

3) Check your Ego at the door
Class isn't a competition, yes, we are here to have fun, maybe natural competitive nature arises and it's okay to push yourself, but the goal is to find that sacred space in yourself, not to compete with another person's journey.
Please also mind your mood. Gossip, complaining, and negative attitudes are better suited for the local watering hole or the communal kitchen at work. Be respectful and gentle in your communication. "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about" Be kind and respectful to others.

4) Tell your Instructor about any injuries
Teachers are trained to guide you into the proper form of a pose, as well as deeper. By receiving adjustments, please do not think that this is putting down your technique! Your technique may be on point, but minor tweaks can help to deepen the exercise for optimal benefits.

5) Honor yourself
Work from where you are, not where you think you should be. Listen to your body. Maybe one day you are doing handstands all throughout the sequence, then the next you rest in child's pose and don't try any inversions. Balance is key, and listening to your body is sacred. Don't force your body to do something that it just doesn't want to do at that moment.  Ask your body what it wants, and listen.

6) Leave your cell phone at home, OR turn it off
Simply don't bring it into the room! Although, If you feel unsettled with the foot traffic in the studio or if theft is an issue, bring it into class but turn it OFF. Not vibrate. OFF

7) Minimize Conversation
Recognize the environment. Before class there can be chit chat and social time, maybe even sometimes a little throughout class.
But if the studio is quiet and meditative, keep it that way and please refrain from chit chat. It's not only polite, but it's beneficial to your state of mind!

8) For Yoga: Do NOT skip Savasana
The Final Relaxation pose, called Corpse pose is your time. This is vital to your practice.
This pose is for stillness and deep rest which allows you to embrace the true benefits of yoga.
If you must absolutely leave early, please leave quietly before Savasana (you'll notice the music and postures slow down)
